Housing Group
The Housing Group was formed in 2021 in response to the growing recognition that the inability to access suitable housing was a significant issue for people with a learning disability whose behaviour challenges. In particular, housing issues can lead to people with learning disabilities being unnecessarily detained in hospitals, and are the biggest factor contributing to delayed discharges. It worked strategically to identify barriers to accessing suitable housing, and how these barriers can be addressed.
As part of its work, the Housing Group helped to develop the Housing section of the Co-Produced Action Plan and resources including Overcoming Housing Barriers and One Person’s Housing Journey.
In 2025, members of the Housing Group, including the CBF, became founding members of the Learning Disability and Autism Housing Coalition, a coalition of people with a learning disability and autistic people, families, housing experts, and charities who want to make housing better. The Coalition have met with the Department of Health and Social Care and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government to talk about what needs to be in place, and how to achieve this. In 2026, the CB-NSG Steering Group and the Housing Group agreed that because the Learning Disability and Autism Housing Coalition have been taking forward campaigning around housing, the Housing Group should be ended.
