Who's Who at the CBF

Vivien Cooper: Founder of the Challenging Behaviour Foundation

Learning disability

My son Daniel has severe learning disabilities and displays a range of behaviours described as challenging. I know from first hand experience the multiple issues facing families caring for individuals who are described as 'challenging'.

I started the CBF to try and ensure that the information available about understanding and supporting individuals who display challenging behaviour gets to those who need it, those who are encountering it every day. I am also determined that children or adults with challenging behaviour should not be transported hundreds of miles away from their home and families when they can be supported locally with the right support in the right place at the right time.

The message I would like to give to other families is that you should not be made to feel guilty because you are told your son or daughter is the most difficult to manage, or most expensive to fund. It is entirely possible to support individuals with complex needs to have a good quality of life in the community if the right support and services are designed around them. You are not alone, and the Challenging Behaviour Foundation is here to support you.
