Learning Disability Practice and Projects Lead

Are you motivated to ensure that individuals with severe learning disabilities and their families are central to shaping the systems and services they rely on? Then we want to hear from you. Apply for our new Learning Disability Practice and Projects Lead role, to lead a new flagship UK wide project to increase direct engagement with young people with severe learning disabilities.  

You will be part of a values driven charity that:

  • Co-produces everything we do with family carers and works in partnership with people and organisations who share our vision 
  • uniquely represents the views and needs of families supporting relatives with severe learning disabilities and challenging behaviour 
  • offers significant, practical support to families in crisis, through online resources and via our helpline, advocacy and case work 
  • consistently impacts on national policy and good practice 
  • is respected by professionals, provider organisations, national bodies and government – but constructively challenges when needed as a critical friend 
  • values the well-being of our staff and volunteers and provides flexibility and support  
  • gets things done! 

Hours: 30 hours per week

Salary: £28,000 – £32,000 (£35,000- £40,000 FTE)

Location: Chatham, Kent (5 min walk from Chatham train station). Hybrid or office-based preferred, remote working will be considered   

Travel: Occasional UK wide travel requiredand quarterly meetings in London 

Start Date: from 1st May 2026

Additional information  

The role requires:

  • Occasional travel across the UK for meetings and events, which may involve some overnight stays
  • Attendance at quarterly SMT meetings in London
  • The ability to work at the office in Chatham when required, as agreed with the CEO
  • This role requires a basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check 
  • To fulfil this role, you must have the right to work in the UK
