Skills for Care Funded Training Workshops

The CBF is delighted to have been awarded funding from Skills for Care to deliver a range of our training workshops in 2025/26. The workshops support learning and development, to improve the knowledge, confidence and skills of Personal Assistants (PAs) and the family carers who employ them ( Individual Employers, IE’s)

Skills for Care Funded Training Workshops 

Training Workshops for Individual Employers (IEs) and Personal Assistants (PAs) in England 

  • Are you a Personal Assistant (PA) or Individual Employer (IE) aged over 18 working in adult social care (including prospective PAs/IEs under a structured programme)? 
  • Do you support someone with a severe learning disability whose behaviour is described as challenging? 
  • Are you based in England?

If you have answered “YES” to these questions you are eligible for a range of free training workshops funded by Skills for Care and can book your place below Limited replacement support costs available.

Workshops are all 4.5 hours (including breaks) and delivered online to up to 15 participants (limited replacement care/support costs available). 

If you are not eligible for the free training you can still attend our workshops by booking a place on one of our Open Access Workshops or commissioning a workshop by emailing workshops@thecbf.org.uk or calling 01634 838739 

 

 

The following workshops will be available in Autumn 2025:

Positive Behaviour Support (two part workshop)

Delivered online via Zoom part 1 – 16th September 2025, and part 2 – 14th October 2025

Understanding Challenging Behaviour and Supporting Behaviour Change form a two-part workshop set about Positive Behaviour Support. The workshops facilitate partnership working, to enable staff and families to work together to identify appropriate individualised behaviour support strategies that can be used consistently in all settings. The workshops are suitable for both professionals and family carers.

Communication and Challenging Behaviour Workshop

Delivered online via Zoom on 13th November 2025 

This practical workshop is an introduction to the links between communication and behaviour. This workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to understand how to improve communication with individuals with severe learning disabilities and in turn improve their quality of life, choice and behaviour.

Pica Awareness (eating inedible objects) Workshop

Delivered online via Zoom on 1st December 2025 

The CBF’s Pica Awareness workshop is specifically designed for professionals, support staff and family carers who are supporting children, young people or adults who have severe learning disabilities and display Pica behaviour (eating inedible objects) and/or polydipsia (drinking fluids).

We will be delivering an additional set of these Skills for Care funded training workshops in Jan/Feb 2026, Dates TBC.

Background 

The CBF is delighted to receive funding from Skills for Care to deliver a range of workshops.  These workshops support learning and development, to improve the knowledge, confidence and skills, of Personal Assistants (PAs) and the family carers who employ them Individual Employers (IEs). 

Here is a list of eligible participants:  

Individual Employers (IEs) over the age of 18: 

  • Employers who are self-funders – use their own money 
  • Employers who receive adult social care direct payments from their local authority 
  • Employers who are using NHS Personal Health Budget
  • People (aged 18 or over) who are thinking about becoming an individual employer (pre-employer training) who have already been pre-approved for a personal budget by their local authority or personal health budget or who will be responsible for funding their own care – this should be part of a structured programme.

Personal Assistants (PAs) over the age of 18 employed or contracted by IEs: 

  • PAs employed using a social care direct payment 
  • PAs employed using a personal health budget 
  • PAs contracted as self employed
  • Prospective PAs (pre-employment training) as part of a structured programme 
We know family carers provide a lot of unpaid care and support for their relatives, but did you know that if you manage a Direct Payment package for your relative, you are an Individual Employer and eligible to attend our workshops?
