Winter 2013 Newsletter

The Winter 2013 edition of Challenge has been printed, packed by our wonderful volunteers and is now on its way to letterboxes and inboxes across the country.

In this issue ‘Facing Challenges Together’ we hear from an advocate, a support worker and a personal assistant about the rewards of working in partnership with families and individuals. On the front page Bill Mumford talks about working together from a provider’s perspective and we hear from families about what providers and care workers need to do in order to work with family carers.

A new section invites families to comment through social media and in our regular Questions and Answers from our Email Network families share their top tips on adapting their homes.

Vivien Cooper OBE writes about the high price of getting it wrong for people and how working together is the best way to ensure that people are safe, well cared for, happy and supported.  There’s a column about actions following the Winterbourne View programme and an update on the CBF’s Early Intervention project.

The newsletter introduces Everybody Matters, our latest film, which is now nearing completion. The film is all about the benefits of local, personalised support. Alongside this introduction is an extract from our Planning for the Future information sheet, for families looking to achieve this support for their loved one. Colleen who stars in Everybody Matters, is introduced by her sisters who write about the challenges of her past and the new life she now enjoys in her local community.

Also in this edition is an extract from a Guide for Advocates , our resource for anyone advocating on behalf of someone with a severe learning disability and behaviour described as challenging. There’s also a new introduction to all the resources and support available from the CBF.

Finally the Supporter’s News section focusses on the hugely successful September Skydive and explains how to give to the CBF this Christmas without spending any more money!

You can see a PDF version of the Winter version of Challenge here or email your details to info@thecbf.org.uk  to be added to the newsletter mailing list for future editions.
