Winterbourne View: The Scandal Continues - A report and a petition

A new report  and a petition from Mencap and the Challenging Behaviour Foundation

Three years ago BBC Panorama exposed horrific abuse of people with learning disabilities at Winterbourne View assessment and treatment unit.

In response the Governmnent put an action plan in place, committing to a timetable to ensure the 3,250 children and adults in assessment and treatment units like Winterbourne were supported to move back to their local communities by 1st June 2014.

There has been an appalling failure to meet this deadline. Not only has there been no progress but recent NHS figures show more people with a learning disability are going into units then are leaving them.

You can download the report here.

We are calling on Prime Minister David Cameron to take responsibility for the failure of the Government to meet its own deadline and to fulfil the promise made to get the right support, in the right place, for each and every person with a learning disability. We can’t just stand back and let another Winterbourne View happen.

Please sign the petition. Thank you.
