Spring 2013 Newsletter

The Spring 2013 edition of the Challenging Behaviour Foundation newsletter “Challenge” is now available.

It features our exciting plans to reach out to more families by developing our networks across England, supported by the Big Lottery Fund, who we are delighted to be working with. We’re setting up a network of local champions, as well as expanding our family linking scheme and parents’ email network. We hear from volunteers and families about their experiences of these projects and find out more about how new volunteers can be involved . We  hope that these projects will enable us to reach many more families who need our support.

The newsletter also describes new CBF resources. These include our summary information sheets, and our most recent information sheet, “The impact of Caring on families”. We have also produced a new Study Pack for schools and colleges, which helps teachers to use Positive Behaviour Support techniques in partnership with families to develop a consistent approach to supporting behaviour change.

Vivien Cooper argues that the actions promised after Winterbourne View provide a real opportunity to make sure that we get support right everywhere in the country, for everyone with severe learning disabilities whose behaviour challenges. David Congdon asks what we need to do to achieve this, and we find out how the learning disability team at Salford are already making it happen.

Finally, we hear from our fundraisers, who have been signing up for runs and quizzes to support the CBF to enable us to provide support and information to more families. We’ve got more events planned, and there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.

You can view an online version of the Spring edition of challenge here, or email your details to info@thecbf.org.uk to be added to the newsletter mailing list for future editions.

This edition we also want to know what you think about ‘Challenge’, how you use it and how it can be improved. Our Newsletter evaluation can be accessed  here,  by taking part and leaving your details you can be entered into a draw to win a £25 Amazon Voucher.  Of course you can complete the survey anonymously, either way we value your feedback to ensure Challenge is a valuable resource for all our readers.
