Volunteer Welcome Workshops in Newcastle and Northampton

Dates of the Newcastle Volunteer Welcome Workshops have changed, and we have announced the dates of Workshops in Northampton.

Are you interested in representing the Challenging Behaviour Foundation in your local area, or helping us to support other family carers? We’re looking for family carers supporting someone with severe learning disabilities whose behaviour is described as challenging to get involved in our growing network around the country.

We’re looking for Local Champions, who can go to events and offer information to other families. Some of our local champions also give talks and host film screenings. If you enjoy meeting people, and want to help other families get the information they need about challenging behaviour we’d love for you to join us.

“I loved running the stall as I felt proud representing the CBF… This also gave me an opportunity to attend the conference which was excellent and very informative.”

Maureen, Local Champion

We need more Family Link Volunteers, who can offer telephone support to other family carers. If you’re a good listener and you think you could help support someone through a difficult time this could be a great role for you.

“Being a parent of a child with Severe Learning Disabilities and behaviour that challenges can be very isolating, the ripple effect is huge. Supporting other families who know you ‘get it’ can make an enormous difference.”

Jen, Family Link Volunteer

To join us as a volunteer you will need to fill out an application form, and come along to our Volunteer Welcome Workshops.

The dates of our Newcastle workshops have changed. They will now be run on the 21st & 22nd May and 18th & 19th June.

We are also holding Volunteer Welcome Workshops in Northampton this summer, on the 11th & 12th June and 9th & 10th July.

The workshops are a great opportunity to meet other families in your area and find out more about supporting people with severe learning disabilities and behaviour described as challenging.

The project is funded by the Big Lottery; we will cover costs of training (including an overnight stay), replacement care costs, and all volunteer expenses.

We'll also be holding Social and Film Screenings alongside the workshops, on the evening of June 18th in Newcastle, and July 9th in Northampton. You are very welcome to come along with friends and family, watch our Everybody Matters film, and meet some of the CBF staff and volunteers. If you would like to come, please email communications@thecbf.org.uk for more information.

If you’d like to find out more about volunteering there’s some information on our website here: http://www.challengingbehaviour.org.uk/get-involved/volunteer-with-us/volunteer-with-us
