A Volunteer's Story

We are running our first Big Lottery funded volunteer training day in June, and the deadline for applicants is fast approaching, so we have asked one of our existing volunteers to tell us about her experiences:

Maureen West is a local champion for the CBF. She attends events in her area to publicise the CBF and share our information and support.

She told us: “I was asked to run an information stall in a conference relating to challenging behaviour in Liverpool. This also gave me the opportunity to attend the conference, which was excellent.

“I loved running the stall as I felt proud representing the CBF as, from personal experience, I know how dedicated they are. Having a son with challenging behaviour myself, I found it easy to relate to others who browsed around the stall.

“One couple really opened up to me and were happy to tell me about some of the problems they were having with their son. We decided to sit next to each other at the conference and have lunch together so that we could talk further. Since then we have become firm friends!”

The CBF are now recruiting for local champions, and family linking volunteers who will give emotional support to other family carers. The deadline for our first intake of volunteers is Wednesday 15th April, so now is the time to apply if you want to get involved.
