  • Are you passionate about the rights of people with learning disabilities?
  • Do you want to support and empower families facing complex issues and advocating for the best outcomes for their relative?

Join our small friendly team to support family carers and make a real difference to the lives of children, young people and adults with severe learning disabilities and who display behaviour described as challenging.

You will offer casework support to family carers by telephone and email, by providing information and guidance about challenging behaviour associated with severe learning disabilities including: communication, rights, accessing services, safeguarding and other related topics.  Additionally, we have identified the need to target support to family carers of 17 to 19 year olds at transition between children's and adult services.

Specialist casework involves ongoing communication with the family for as long as it is needed (this could be a matter of months or years). You will liaise with relevant professionals involved with the individual and support families to challenge decisions using relevant policy and best practice. This work is closely linked to our strategic influencing strand of work which aims to address these issues from a top down as well as bottom up approach.

The Family Caseworker post is a varied and rewarding role with opportunities to get involved in interesting projects, run support networks and develop resources. Clinical supervision is provided as well as ongoing learning and professional development.

The post-holder will input into the direction of the Family Support Team and the charity as a whole.

The Challenging Behaviour Foundation is a highly regarded national charity that was established by a family carer who continues to lead the work of the charity.
